Competition Scoring

RMBC Yacht Racing Rules Appendix A

Scoring System

The following illustrates the simple scoring system that is used to rate sailors.

  1.  The number of heats for a class of yacht and/or club trophy are approved at the AGM (usually held in January) for that particular year’s competition(s).
  2. The ARM or appointed race marshall for the day shall record the heat position place as a  number. (First position is recorded as “1” and second position as “2” etc.,)
  3. In the event that two yachts cannot be distinguished crossing the line, they can be recorded as equal. If, say, for third place then each recorded as 3=, next being “5”.
  4. Yachts that were present on the day but did not start the heat are entered on the heat records as “DNS” and those that started but did not finish are recorded as “DNF”. The summary sheet will mark each DNS or DNF as “Number of yachts present + 1”
  5. The results are notified to the club secretary.
  6. The webmaster maintains a list of results to date on the web site at
    rugeleymodelclub.org.uk
  7. Yachts that are not present on the day are shown on the summary sheet for each heat
as effectively position “Number of yachts present + 1”
  8. At the end of the season, the yacht’s TEN best placings are summed.
  9. The winner is the lowest summation.
  10. In the event of a tie, use “scroll back” on the tied yachts considering in order, “best
Eleven”, then “best Twelve” etc. to obtain a result.
  11. Prior to publication of results to RMBC, the Chairman and one other member shall
    independently verify the results
