I do look forward to Mondays at Manor Park. There are seldom fewer than 20 and sometimes 30 members, either sailing or steering scale models. There is a courteous, friendly, way that we help each other and enjoy the lake.
Our background team continues to work hard. We now have a Nat West Community FREE Bank Account with the money from Grenville Thornhill’s yachts, scale boats and rc Rockhoppers. Colin Walton, Alan Tidman, Brian Morris and David Marsh have control of the funds. Grenville’s bequest is for long term “capital” items, such as the weather station and canvases, rather than running expenses.
David Buttress and Chris Cheal have erected our new Ecowitt weather station on the piles to the floating pontoon. You can install the Ecowitt App on your phone and view it on the www.rugeleyboatclub.org.uk website. There is also a lake depth laser readout. So the lower the lake the higher the reading. Below 900mm the lake would be over the access road. Paul is going to try to match this with the River Level at Kings Bromley.
As MPSC photographic canvases have appeared round the clubhouse the RMBC are adding five more canvases of Victorias, Df95s, racing yachts and eight scale models, which naturally includes last year’s scale winner. These will have an acoustic deadening infill, thanks are due to Kenneth Smith.
We are planning a May Day Bank Holiday Open Day similar to last year from 11.00 on Monday 4th May 2026. All welcome. The MPSC have again offered rib tours around the three lakes. Kenneth Smith will provide bacon sandwiches and there will be special biscuits. There have been no offers to bake a cake so far.
We are hoping to have a Scale Model Day to specially enjoy the most recently made scale models on the last bank holiday in May 2026. With judging, prizes and certificates. We are delighted that Paul Golder is back updating the website with news, race results and more, recent, scale model photos. Please feel free to contribute.
I have raked the shoreline once and barrowed the organic and plastic detritus into the blue wheelie. There are a few small tasks like this that prepare Manor Park before you all arrive – as you do – enthusiastic and cheerful every Monday. We truly appreciate all the wall builders, scaffold pilers, photographers, launchers, patio weed sprayers, Birthday card posters and collectors of donated models. (This list must be incomplete).
Please don’t forget our spare, visitors Df95 No26 in the Green Cabin. It is always charged ready. It is in the winning position, ahead of the fleet, on the front of the new Birthday Card.
I must remind everyone to pay £10 RMBC 2026 subs to Alan Tidman so that we can continue to have our fun with the Open Days, Prizes, Birthday cards and website.
