Sailing Report Open Sailing 22/09/2025

A very enjoyable few races, from “up the hill” where the big boys race. Feeling a little guilty as the working party laboured away on the flood wall.

Club News from Colin

Hi Boaters I do look forward to Mondays at Manor Park. There are seldom fewer than 20 and sometimes 30 members, either sailing or steering scale models. There is a courteous, friendly, way that we help each other and enjoy the lake. Our background team continues to work hard. We now have a Nat West Community FREE Bank Account with the money from Grenville Thornhill’s yachts, scale boats and rc Rockhoppers. Colin Walton, Alan Tidman, Brian Morris and David Marsh have control of the funds. Grenville’s bequest is for long term “capital” items, such as the weather station and canvases, […]

To complete the competition calendar for 2025 it has been decided to hold an extra race day for Victoria’s and DF65’s on the 13th October. It is hoped that as many boats as possible will take part, even those who have not participated in the competition this year so far. Lets make it a celebration of our smaller boats.

Hi,I am delighted to forward the arrangements for our friendly race day between Aldridge and Rugeley clubs plus guests, organised by Brian Morris, Officer of the Day.I am on holiday again, so I am sure that Brian will appreciate any help with laying out the buoys, crewing the rescue boat, positioning Nessie, judging the finish line, welcoming guests and making sure that everyone gets a fair chance. Certificates will be presented for most outcomes. Please come prepared for any weather, (up to Sun Lotion Factor 50 or alternatively Southern Ocean full oilskins), as only flooding over 2.0 metres at Kings […]

Last Friday an MYA open DF95 event was held at Rudyard Lakes which lies between Stoke and Macclesfield. Five Manor Park members participated in what was a very successful event, Colin shared an image captured by his brother’s drone which coincidentally shows MPSC sails leading the pack. You may well recognize some sail numbers often leading in races at Manor Park.

Dredging the Trent- Message from Colin

There will be no RMBC meeting on Monday 28th next week. The gap across the River Trent into Saddlesall Lake has silted up again after the usual 5 years. This makes sailing dinghies with centreboards between the lakes impossible, in the increasingly shallow conditions. The dredging contractors have arrived today with 3 articulated lorries carrying an enormous pontoon with a big excavator to go on top. This week they will ensure that the silt is removed that has been deposited by the River Trent, preventing access to Saddlesall Lake only. On Monday all the silt spoil will be taken off […]
