Brian organized a very successful mixed class team event on Monday 7th July. This was well attended including a few visitors. Brian reported:.
Thanks to those who attended today , unfortunately Alan Tidman and Dave Marsh were unable to attend due to poor health and we wish them a quick recovery .
We commenced with a 6 a side team event in relatively calm conditions before it soon got a bit windy , we had 9 DF95 yachts and 1 Victoria and 2 DF 65, the DF95,s had a delayed start of 30 secs for the first 2 Races and 45 seconds for the 3rd ,this didnt make much difference as they soon caught up with the smaller yachts although Rob Hudson was making a good fist of it .it was extended to 60 secs for the 4th and 5th races .
As the wind gained speed Bill Woodwards Victoria was now Struggling to stay upright and retired Whilst it was still afloat ,Meanwhile the rescue boat was very busy rescuing boats stuck on bouys, and Paul Gutteridge , Chris Cheal and Barrys yachts needed the pole treatment having run ashore in a heap . At least it helped the others catch up .
Although the conditions were very challenging we managed to complete 5 Heats and when completed it seemed we all were exhausted but satisfied with the racing . as per attached score sheet Rugeley Model Boat Club came out as the Winners of the team event with Paul Kerrigan and Sid Sims equal first for their team, Graham Saunders a new Rugeley Member taking winning position overall and individual winner for the Aldridge and Guests team .
thanks to those who got the course and rescue boat ready, and for using the rescue boat it certainly helped .
regards Brian
